The Stressful Guest List

When we started planning for our wedding, Marc and I agreed that our guest list should be around 150 persons only. We only wanted to invite relatives and very close friends to celebrate with us, and we want to save on costs as well.

However, during the very first draft of our guest list, our headcount was at 386! This cannot be! First, we cannot fund this (and even if we did, I wouldn't want to). And second, this was not possible. We are not a celebrity couple and we are not in the province where we need to invite everyone.

The next thing we did was to trim down the guests and decide who among them are close, relatively close, or just mere acquaintances. We also took into account their location, what were the chances of them attending? We decided that we absolutely cannot take off the list our immediate family and our first degree relatives. Also we had a lot of help from this "Invitation Flow Chart" that I got from W@W (Weddings at Work -- an online support group for brides or grooms to be).

Finally, we were able to trim down our guests to 270 heads. We felt that not all of them will probably attend, so we decided on the magic number: 250. That means I need to be looking for venues that can accommodate 250 people. That will be the next item on my list. Wish me luck!
